What should the average APR be for college students getting their first credit card?

I am interested in getting a credit card since I am living on my own and I can’t really rely on anyone for financial help. I have rent and internet and energy bills to pay every month and duing midterms and finals especially it is extremely hard to balance school and work. When I do work for at least 20 hours a week however, I make fairly good money and I know I will be able to pay off any credit card bills so I am not worried about that. I just need a convenient way to pay my bills since I’m only a freshman and I don’t wanna overwork myself during my first semester of college.
I was thinking of getting a Discover Student Credit Card since there is 0% APR for the first six months and I expect I will only need to use it during my finals for next semester since I already paid the rent for November and December and my energy and internet bills only total about $40. After the first six months, it says that there is a 14.99% variable APR and I called to ask about that but the person on the other end wasn’t much help and just repeated what I already read online. Is APR the interest rate and should it even be that high or is that normal for student credit cards? Discover also offers 5% cash back on certain things but I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting those benefits since I intend on using the credit card only in emergencies after I use it to pay rent during the winter semester.
I talked to my friends and they advised me not to get a VISA Credit Card like I initially planned since they charge you overdraft fees based on whether or not you have enough money in your checkings account. I don’t want any kind of card that is somehow linked to my checkings account.
Any advice or explanation about APR and other things to ask and watch out for would be appreciated. Thanks!
& I live in Michigan by the way, I don’t know if that matters or not but I think laws differ state to state usually.

how do credit card companies reward us by giving us cash backs and points when we buy things and they pay for it and then we pay them and we can also pay a portion of the amount on a monthly basis?
so the credit card is for free and it also gives is cash back .. what’s the trick behind that?

I need to know for a screenplay. Who, in history or literature, either voluntarily became hated for the good of society or who did something great and gave the credit to someone else for the good of everyone.
It’s pathetic, but all I can think of is Batman from the Dark Knight, how he makes himself out to be a villain at the end so everyone venerates Harvey Dent. Also, I suppose the guy who allegedly wrote Shakespeare’s plays would count. Anyone else?
If someone uses their credit card to buy me an item, can I return it and get cash back?

My friend’s mother bought me a graphics card with her credit card. I paid her back with cash later. The package is unopened and I want to return it. I have the receipt.
If I return the unopened graphics card with the receipt, can I get full money back without my friend’s mom being present?
The store is BestBuy by the way.

i have a friend who is bi….and only me and a few other peopel know i was hangign out with him and he was bashing gay guys, and randomly bringing how guy/guy was not cool

Got $480 from the Costco AMEX card (3% cashback on eating out, 2% travel, 1% all else); get $100 every few months from a Chase VISA (5% on groceries, gas, drugstores – 1% otherwise) and a couple $100 from a USAA MC where it’s only 1% back but we charge our insurance, cable / internet bill to that card…
What are some normal cash-back amounts and can you recommend other / better ways to make money back on the money you spend? thanks!
(and hope this helps some out there figure out how great credit cards can be is you know how to use them — my husband and I have joint card accounts and charge EVERYTING to the cards, pay the balance in full each month and only have cards with no annual fee… just need to remember what card to use for gas, for a restaurant, etc for max % reward…)

We got details of a lovely hotel through first choice and we have contaced them direct and can save about £700 booking through them and doing our own flights.
But First Choice won’t allow us to book the wedding package alone. The hotel will take it on board but I think I would rather book through an agent to keep us right with all the documents we need!
